Information on Volunteering

Hospital Outreach Advocacy:

Often times victims are alone at the hospital, and the only person available to them for emotional support and information is the Volunteer Outreach Advocate.

The men and women who volunteer with our Hospital Outreach program are trained to respond to Sierra Medical Center an upon specific request, to William Beaumont Army Medical Center, to provide direct support and advocacy services to victims of sexual assault. They receive Texas Office of Attorney General certified training on hospital outreach advocacy prior to being assigned. This certification is a combination of 40 hours classroom time, self-study, and on-the-job training.

Pick your own shifts each month.  We recognize that the biggest obstacle to volunteering can be time. Our volunteers hold full-time jobs, attend school full-time, and some do both.  We work hard to accommodate our volunteers as much as possible by letting you select your own shifts each month, because we recognize the value of your time. If you're interested, please call us!

Men are welcome and encouraged to apply. We have trained and dedicated male volunteer outreach advocates who are retired military, federal law enforcement, retired medical personnel, and military reserves.  All have one thin in common-- a willingness to help sexual assault victims become survivors. Sexual assault victims appreciate the presence of someone who offers compassion, a hand of support and strength, whether they are male or female!

The next Advocacy Training class is scheduled to begin September 13,2008.
