What is Sexual Assault?

Sexual Assault is an act of violence, where sexual contact is used to exert power and control over an individual, frequently inflicting humiliation in the process.

The crime of sexual assault can include:


  • Rape
  • Child Sexual Abuse
  • Marital Rape
  • Incest
  • Exposure


In approximately 80-85% of all cases, the crimes are perpetrated by someone the victim knows, such as an intimate partner, a friend, acquaintance, or by someone related to the victim.
