Listen. Don't try to "fix" the problem.  Be available- initiate contact and conversations with the victim.
Comfort without taking control. Help the victim organize his/her thoughts and to make his/her own decisions on how to proceed.
Reinforce that this is NOT the victim's fault, no matter what the victim did-the perpetrator is responsible for the assault.
Offer safety.
Suggest calling a hotline or local crisis center.
Encourage the victim to preserve evidence by going to the hospital, having a doctor's exam, having photos taken, and filing a police report.
Get Treatment for medical needs.
Help the victim reestablish feelings of self-worth.
Assist with getting any resources he/she wants; counseling, legal advice, etc.
Learn as much as you can about the long range issues facing victims of rape.
Get help for yourself-you will feel upset or angry at what happened, too.
Don't burden him/her with your reactions.  He/she has enough on his/her hands.
